Cas Abao is located in the Banda Abou region, on Curaçao's west coast, between Willemstad and Westpunt. You get there via a paved main road that ends in a bumpy but passable dirt track before opening onto a shaded parking area. Entry is paid per vehicle at the gate, which gives access to secure parking, showers and changing rooms.
What strikes you on arrival is the contrast between the fine white sand of the beach and the shades of turquoise blue in the water, lined with palm trees that provide a few pockets of natural shade. Sun loungers and umbrellas can be rented on site for the day, and a beach bar-restaurant serves drinks and light meals right there. For those who want to extend the relaxation, a massage pavilion offers treatments by the sea, facing the horizon.
Cas Abao's real strength lies beneath the surface: the reef starts just a few meters from shore, particularly on the right side of the bay, where visibility and marine life are said to be better. A mask and snorkel are enough to spot parrotfish, turtles and coral without having to venture far offshore. A dive shop on site lets you rent equipment or try scuba diving for those whose curiosity pulls them a bit further underwater.
You'll need a car
Most of the best beaches are at least 45 minutes from Willemstad. Renting a car is not optional.
