Plan your Curaçao trip

Everything we wish we had known before our first month on the island. When to come, how long to stay, and how to get around.

Best time to visit

Pick your month

Curaçao is outside the hurricane belt and the climate is gentle year round. Some months are still better than others, depending on what you are coming for.

  • Jan – Mar26°C

    Perfect

Dry, low humidity, low rain. Peak season for a reason.

  • Apr – Jun28°C

    Good

Light breeze, longer days, fewer crowds than peak.

  • Jul – Sep30°C

    Warm

Hottest stretch with occasional showers. Family-week sweet spot.

  • Oct – Dec27°C

    Excellent

Rainy season, but showers are brief and quickly give way to sunshine. Quieter beaches before the holiday rush. Our favorite for couples.

    Punda Vibes

Every Thursday evening, the historic district of Punda in Willemstad turns into a free street party. From around 6pm to 10pm, the cobblestone streets come alive with live music, dance and local artisans, while shops extend their hours for the occasion. Around 8:15pm, fireworks light up St. Anna Bay. Punda Vibes grew out of a community initiative called Punda Loves You, created to breathe new life into Willemstad's old streets.

Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival 2026

Every year, at the end of August, Piscadera Bay turns into a giant seaside stage for the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival, the Caribbean spin-off of the famous Dutch festival in Rotterdam. From August 28 to 30, 2026, the World Trade Center hosts three days of waterfront concerts spanning jazz, soul, funk, salsa and R&B. A Curaçao music festival that has grown well beyond its name to become a real Caribbean gathering.

    Curaçao Pride 2026

Every year in early October, Willemstad dresses up in color for Curaçao Pride. In 2026, the 14th edition runs from September 30 to October 4, with the theme "Make Waves." Between the festive opening, the big parade, and lively parties, this Caribbean LGBTQ event brings together locals and travelers from across the region around one shared energy - warm and unpretentious, just like the island itself.

Getting there

Flights to Curaçao

Curaçao's Hato airport (CUR) has direct flights from Amsterdam, Toronto, Miami, New York and most Caribbean hubs. We use SkyScanner to compare and our travel partners for stretched legs and stopovers.

  • Seasonal direct flights from Toronto and Montreal with Air Canada (roughly October to April)

Getting around

Cars, taxis and tours

You will need a car. Most beaches are 45 to 75 minutes from Willemstad on slow roads, and a rental pays for itself within a few taxi rides.

Good to know

The on-island essentials

Five practical things we get asked about every time.

  • Currency

The Caribbean guilder (XCG) replaced the Antillean guilder in March 2025. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere.

  • Languages

Papiamentu, Dutch, English and Spanish. English will get you understood almost everywhere.

  • Tap water

Perfectly safe to drink: it comes from distilled seawater. Fill your bottles without a second thought.

  • Electricity

    127 V / 50 Hz, US-style sockets (types A and B). Coming from Europe, bring an adapter.

  • Time zone

UTC-4 all year, with no daylight saving time.

Travel insurance

Don't fly without it

Snorkel cuts, sea-urchin spines, scooter scrapes, we have seen all of them. SafetyWing is the no-fuss option we use ourselves: monthly subscription, easy claims, covers nomads and short trips alike.
