Landhuis Daniel restaurant

Set in a 1711 plantation house on the road to Westpunt, this unlikely spot hidden among the arid vegetation is one of the island's finest culinary surprises. The shaded terrace in front of the plantation house provides the setting for an eclectic menu that blends French, Dutch, Caribbean and Asian cuisine. The Indonesian rijsttafel has become legendary here.

On the road to Westpunt, hidden behind a discreet gate in the middle of the "mundi" - the arid vegetation typical of the Dutch Antilles - Landhuis Daniel is one of Curaçao's oldest plantation houses, dating from the early 1700s. The shaded terrace under the trees creates a relaxed bistro atmosphere that contrasts with the quality of the food.

The kitchen blends French, Dutch, Caribbean and Asian influences, with seasonal specialties like mussels, oysters, white asparagus and game imported fresh from Holland and prepared French-style. The Indonesian rijsttafel remains the most requested dish, both by locals and visitors. Dutch pancakes in sweet or savory versions round out a menu that isn't afraid to surprise. Owner Jan also displays his watercolors inside, some are for sale.
